Past Events
The Shrine Church of Saint Stanislaus has a long tradition of love for beauty. Visiting artists have acclaimed the acoustic properties of the church as among the best in the entire city. May 23, 2004 Shrine Mass St. Stanislaus Church was designated a Shrine Church of the Diocese of Cleveland. This solemn and historic liturgy recognized the church as a site for prayer and pilgrimage. Event details. May 8, 2004 Four Eagle Award Dinner The designation of St. Stanislaus as a shrine caps off the 750th anniversary of the canonization of St. Stanislaus. As part of this special weekend, the Four Eagle Award Dinner was held. Read the details of this benefit and learn who was honored with this year's Four Eagle Award. May 7, 2004 Ave Maria St. Stanislaus Combined Choirs and Musical Friends Catholic tradition has always placed Mary, the Mother of God, in a most honored position. At St. Stanislaus Church, the tradition of a Marian concert coupled with prayer and a formal crowning paid tribute to Our Lady on the first Sunday of her month. Vocal and floral tributes set this concert apart from all others. May 2, 2004 Divine Mercy Sunday On the first Sunday after Easter, this special Mass included the anointing of the sick. This Mass was planned especially for the benefit of those belonging to the parish who are normally unable to attend church services due to illness or infirmity. The Mass concluded with the praying of the Divine Mercy chaplet. April 18, 2004 Hildegard's 'ORDO VIRTUTUM' Hildegard von Bingen's "ORDO VIRTUTUM," is the 12th Century morality play about the Soul's struggle to escape the temptation of the Devil and the World in order to join the Virtues in Heaven. This staged performance was directed by Mary Larew of Oberlin College, with performers from the Oberlin Conservatory as well as professional musicians from the North Coast specializing in early music. March 20 and March 21, 2004 Tears and Sighs: A Valentine to John Dowland Ron Andrico and Donna Stewart returned to St. Stanislaus Church with a program entitled "Teares and Sighs: A Valentine to John Dowland." The duo, who specialize in rarely heard lute songs, featured the Elizabethan Dowland's finest masterpieces of melancholy from his last book of songs. Guest performers included Christina Babich on treble and bass viol, and vocalists Lisa Rainsong and Gregory Heislman. February 7, 2004 Serduszka - Polish Children's Choir Serduszka, a Polish Children's Choir from Chicago, presented a concert of songs in the church. January 25, 2004 Pastoralka 
Opera Circle and FriendsThe shepherds try to tell their side of the story in Leon Schiller's nativity narrative, but they must contend witht he lyrical out-pourings of the angels, Mary, and good old St. Joseph, as well as the bravura declamations of the Ox and Ass. The music of Jan Maklakiewicz reflecting the truest spirit of the season January 4, 2004 Christmas Oratorio Red {An Orchestra} More than 500 people attended Scheffer's modernized adaptation of Heinrich Schutz's oratorio, "The Birth of Jesus Christ." It was performed in a new English translation by Amanda Holden and featured chorus, soloists, marimbas and strings. December 14, 2003 Bellini, Paganini Concert Opera Circle Hristo Popov, violin, OC concertmaster; Bryan Thomas, OC double bass; Dorota Sobieska, soprano; Jacek Sobieski, piano November 28, 2003 Eucharistic Day Vesper service with procession of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. November 23, 2003 La Straniera - Cleveland Premier Opera Circle One of Bellini's most melodic operas, La Straniera, was an unqualified success when it premiered in 1829. 'Opera Circle,' under the artistic direction of Jacek and Dorota Sobieski, brought to life another of Bellini's masterpieces. November 18, 2003 Requiem Aeternam A prayerful melding of sacred music and scripture, situated between the feast of All Souls and Veterans Day to commemorate and honor those who have entered eternal life. Gregorian chant and Motets were interwoven throughout readings followed by the traditional Compline service for the faithful departed. November 8, 2003 Concert of Polish Lute Music Performed by Ron Andrico, lutenist, and Donna Steward, alto. Lute music by the Polish composer, Jakob Reyes, from the court of Henri III of France (formerly Henry II of Poland). Vocal music featured courtly airs from the same period. October 25, 2003 The Catholic catholic Choralfest To commemorate the 25th Jubilee of Pope John Paul II, a concert of sacred music was performed by numerous Cleveland Catholic choirs representing various world cultures. October 19, 2003 Marian Art Exhibit Classical Marian paintings, Marian artwork from various Cleveland ethnic cultures and newly created artworks specifically for this occasion dealt with the Luminous Mysteries. October 12 - 26, 2003 Mass of Thanksgiving Mass (in Polish) commemorating the election of Cardinal Karol Wojtyła to the Throne of Peter and the feast of St. Hedwig. October 16, 2003 Polish Festival The St. Stanislaus parish annual celebration of Polish culture with great food, music and dancing! October 3 - October 5, 2003 Transitus The reflective prayer celebrating St. Francis Assisi's passing into glory. October 3, 2003 
Blessing of AnimalsIn the spirit of St. Francis, animals of all kinds were blessed outside the church. October 2, 2003 "Light in the Darkness" A Taize Prayer Service of hope and reconciliation that commemorated the second anniversary of September 11. September 11, 2003 Assumption of Mary This Taize style music/prayer service commemorated the Assumption of Mary, the Mother of God. Flowers were blessed as we honored her participation in the resurrection of her Son. August 15, 2003 St. Stanislaus Birthday Concert Polish Singers Alliance of America District IX St. Stanislaus Church hosted an ensemble of Polish choirs from Buffalo, New York in a grand concert celebrating our patron saint. The concert consisted of sacred music performed by various choirs, including the piece de resistance, Piotr Górecki's "St. Stanislaus Oratorio," which the Buffalo ensemble will perform in Kraków later this year.
