Fr. William Gulas St. Stanislaus Schedule of Services Parish Ministries Pastoral Staff

St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr On Saturday, May 8, at the 5:00 PM Mass, St. Stanislaus Church was designated a Shrine Church of the Diocese of Cleveland. This solemn liturgy recognized the church as a site for prayer and pilgrimage.

The bilingual (Polish / English) Mass included a procession with the relic of St. Stanislaus with music from the time of the saint's canonization to the present. Bishop Ryszard Karpinski, Auxiliary Bishop of Lublin, Poland served as celebrant. Bishop Karpinski also serves as the delegate of the Polish bishops to world Polonia (Polish people outside of Poland). This special and historic Mass was followed by a reception in the parish Social Center. Photos of this event will be posted here soon.

Four Eagles Award

The designation of St. Stanislaus as a shrine caps off the 750th anniversary of the canonization of St. Stanislaus. As part of this special weekend, the Four Eagle Award Dinner was held on Friday, May 7 at 7:00 PM, at the Polish American Cultural Center. The Four Eagle Award, instituted last year by the church, is given in recognition of outstanding commitment to the St. Stanislaus community.

St. Stanislaus, a former bishop of Krakow, is the patron saint of Poland. According to legend, Stanislaus's body was dismembered after he was martyred, and four eagles came from different areas of Poland to protect his body. In Poland, May 8th is the traditional feast of St. Stanislaus. A relic received in 1969 from then-Bishop of Krakow Karol Wojtyla - now His Holiness Pope John Paul II - was enshrined last year in the church.
