1991--Fr. Michael Surufka, OFM--2016

Fr. Michael Suruka, OFM, will be celebrating 25 years of ordination. Our parish was blessed to have him with us for many of those years. He served us as a transitional deacon before his ordination and then as an associate to Fr. Alcuin  and later Fr. William. Following the untimely and tragic death of Fr. William, Fr. Michael was appointed the pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish. When the friars passed the leadership of the parish to the diocese, Fr. Michael was appointed vocation director for the Assumption Province. He finds the work challenging and rewarding.

On Saturday, June 4th, Fr. Michael will be celebrate the 5:00pm liturgy following by an evening event which will be held at the Polish American Cultural Center located at 6501 Lansing Avenue (the Northeast corner with parking across the street). The cost of this event is $20 which will include heavy appetizers, desserts, soft drinks and coffee. A cash bar will be available. Reservations are welcome and you can pay at the door. Besides covering the cost of the event, the donation will be used to support two Franciscan ministries, The Port which is an inner-city outreach in Chicago and St. Francis Mission in Greenwood, Mississippi. These ministries have a special place in Fr. MIchael's heart as he frequently celebrates the liturgy at the Port and has spent time at the Mission in Greenwood. During his pastorate, our parish participated in the collection for the hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi. Through Fr. Mike's efforts, our parish, Cleveland Central Catholic High School, Trinity High School, Magnificat High School and Marymount Hospital filled a semi truck with donations of clothing, personal hygiene items, medical supplies, batteries and flashlights and water and took them to the St. Francis Mission.
